Inter’s Bastoni and Calhanoglu face fitness concerns ahead of International break

Start

Inter Milan’s impressive 4-0 victory over Atalanta was slightly marred by fitness concerns for two key players, Alessandro Bastoni and Hakan Calhanoglu. Manager Simone Inzaghi was forced to substitute both players in the second half due to muscle fatigue, raising questions about their availability for upcoming international fixtures.

Bastoni experienced discomfort in the soleus of his right leg, while Calhanoglu felt strain in the rotators of his left hip. Despite these issues, Inzaghi remained relatively calm about the situation, stating, “The doctors have reassured me, but these are still two concerns.”

Both players are expected to report for international duty with their respective national teams. Bastoni has been called up for Italy’s UEFA Nations League matches, while Calhanoglu is set to join the Turkish national team. However, there’s a possibility that they might return to Inter earlier than planned if their conditions don’t improve.

The timing of these fitness issues is less than ideal for Inter, as the club will be looking to maintain their strong start to the season when domestic football resumes after the international break. Inzaghi will be hoping to have his full squad available for selection as Inter continues to compete on multiple fronts.

While the victory against Atalanta showcased Inter’s strength and depth, the potential absence of Bastoni and Calhanoglu could force Inzaghi to adjust his tactics and lineup in the coming weeks. The club’s medical staff will be working closely with both players to ensure they recover fully and minimize any risk of aggravating their conditions.
