Inter Milan midfielder Nicolò Barella has successfully undergone surgery to address a sinus issue. The procedure, which took place at the Humanitas Clinical Institute in Rozzano, was described as “perfectly successful” in an official statement released by the club.
Barella, who was unable to join the Italian national team due to this planned medical intervention, is expected to take a brief period of rest before resuming training with his teammates. The club’s statement indicates that the 26-year-old will rejoin group training sessions next week.
According to initial estimates, Barella’s total recovery period is expected to be around two weeks. The primary goal is to have him ready for Inter’s first Serie A match following the international break, scheduled against Monza on Sunday, September 8th at 20:45 local time.
In a worst-case scenario, Barella’s return could be delayed until Inter’s Champions League season opener against Manchester City on Wednesday, September 18th. The subsequent league fixture, a highly anticipated Milan derby, is set for the weekend of September 21-22.
This surgery means Barella will miss Italy’s upcoming Nations League matches against France and Israel on September 6th and 9th respectively. These games mark the beginning of Luciano Spalletti’s tenure as national team coach following Italy’s disappointing performance in the European Championship earlier this summer.
