Inter Milan vice president Javier Zanetti confirmed that striker Lautaro Martinez has agreed a contract extension with the club. Talks had been underway since the start of the year, but there was a recent suggestion that the two sides may be deadlocked on the players salary requests.
In a recent event held in Salerno for the Operazione Nostalgia gathering, Zanetti took a moment to speak with Sportitalia, providing some important news about the imminent renewal.
When asked about his impressive fitness, Zanetti humorously downplayed his condition, stating, “We are not as we once were, but we always try to stay in shape and do our best.” He joked about playing in the Copa America, saying, “I need to ask Scaloni (laughs) if there’s still time for me to join the 26-man squad. Jokes aside, I will be there cheering for my country.”
Zanetti also commented on Argentina’s chances in the tournament. “Can Argentina win? We hope so, but it will be tough. Uruguay and Brazil, despite not being in their best periods, always have players who can make a difference. We need to be careful.”
Zanetti expressed his satisfaction regarding Lautaro Martinez’s contract extension. “Am I happy about Lautaro’s renewal? Yes, very much so. He is the captain of Inter and a key figure for us. We agreed on everything, and he is happy to stay in Milan. We are all thrilled about the contract renewal.”
