Inter Milan returned to second place in Serie A with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Venezia, courtesy of a goal from Lautaro Martinez. The win puts the Nerazzurri just one point behind league leaders Napoli, setting the stage for a crucial clash between the two sides in the next round of fixtures.
Speaking to DAZN after the match, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi acknowledged the importance of the result while highlighting areas for improvement: “We should have been more clinical, but I congratulated the team at half-time because we had created significant chances. In the second half, partly due to Venezia’s substitutions, we conceded a bit more, including one opportunity where Sommer made a great save. Once we took the lead, our main shortcoming was not closing out the game. You know Serie A – matches always remain in the balance. With all the chances we created, we shouldn’t have reached stoppage time with only a 1-0 lead. But credit to Venezia, who came to San Siro and played an excellent game.”
Inzaghi emphasized the competitive nature of this season’s Scudetto race: “There are many teams that were already strong and have invested to strengthen further. Inter has also reinforced and brought in important players who will give us a big hand. It will be a very balanced championship, with all the top teams close together. You need to be in good shape when the crucial part of the season arrives.”
The Inter boss provided updates on player availability: “We’ve had some minor issues, but we’ve recovered Calhanoglu. On Wednesday, we’ll have Acerbi back, leaving only Carlos Augusto out. We need everyone in the squad.”
With crucial matches against Arsenal in the Champions League and Napoli in Serie A on the horizon, Inzaghi is maintaining a match-by-match focus: “The Napoli game won’t be decisive, but it will be important. However, in two and a half days, we’re playing against a team of immense quality, so right now my thoughts are only on Arsenal.”
