Inter are expected to meet with the agents of defender Alessandro Bastoni to discuss a new contract, while Stefan De Vrij is set to respond to the Nerazzurri’s latest offer very soon. The club are working on new deals for a number of players, while others with expiring contracts are expected to leave the club in the summer when their deals end.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that the topic of renewals has taken a back seat following Inter’s loss to Bologna at the weekend, but the Nerazzurri managers have not forgotten that there are contracts to be extended and deals to be finalised.
The newspaper reports that guidelines regarding renewals for the club are simple: first of all, the club wants to secure players who are assets. So priority is being given to a new agreement with Bastoni, who has an existing deal which ends on June 30, 2024 and has a valuation of no less than €50-60 million on the market.
Next week or after the Champions League match with Porto, there will be a new meeting with Tullio Tinti, the defender’s agent, with whom talks have already been sketched out: the idea is to extend until 2027 or even beyond, with the certainty that Alessandro’s current salary (€3.5m net per season), will have to be raised, perhaps up to €5m (he is asking for €5.5m plus bonuses).
The deal for Hakan Calhanoglu’s new contract, on the other hand, has already been satisfied: an agreement until 2026 was reached last week and now only signatures and the official announcement are left.
Dutch defender De Vrij was expected to give an answer by the end of February on the renewal proposal presented to him by Inter: A two-year contract at just under €4m per season. He has yet to decide on the Nerazzuri’s proposal, but the club are optimistic the centre-back will remain in Milan, given the strong attachment he has formed with the shirt.
Edin Dzeko is another who has yet to decide on his future with Inter; the Bosnian striker will turn 37 in two weeks time and will have to accept a significant reduction in his salary to remain. There are reports he may entertain offers from MLS, with US clubs able to offer him a significantly higher salary.
Inter are expected to part ways with Roberto Gagliardini and Dalbert when their contracts end in five months time, however the future of goalkeeper Samir Handanovic and defender Danilo D’Ambrosio, two pillars of the Inter dressing room, are expected to be evaluated at the end of the season.
Finally, the club are hoping to reduce the fee’s involved to sign Romelu Lukaku, Francesco Acerbi and Raoul Bellanova permanently in the summer following their loan spells at the club.
