Change is in the air at Inter Milan. Despite the recent closure of the winter transfer window, the Nerazzurri management are already working on planning the next market moves for the summer. One of the main objectives is to rejuvenate the squad. Calciomercato report how the average age of Simone Inzaghi’s team is currently 29.7 years, making Inter the oldest team in Serie A. While this hasn’t hindered their performance in the league, with such a packed schedule, it’s crucial to have a team composed of players with quick recovery times and the ability to maintain high athletic levels.
The Clear Strategy
Giuseppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio’s idea is clear: use the summer transfer window to “de-age” the squad with quality, young additions. The goal is to move closer to other top teams in the league: Juventus has an average age of 25.3 years, Fiorentina 25.7, while Milan, Lazio, Atalanta, and Napoli range from 26.1 to a maximum of 27.8.
Specific Targets
Several names stand out at the top of Ausilio’s list. The primary candidate remains Santiago Castro, Bologna’s striker who is performing exceptionally well in the league. Born in Argentina, the 2004-class player is considered the perfect heir to his compatriot Lautaro. However, Bologna’s management is asking for a high price, willing to let their striker go only for a significant offer between 25 and 30 million euros.
Given Acerbi’s possible departure, whose contract might be terminated early, significant moves are also expected in defense. Another Bologna player, Beukema, a cornerstone of the Emilian backline, is highly appreciated by Inter. The arrival of Sucic has already been finalized and he will join the team in Milan this summer.
Homegrown Talent
In addition to Castro, Beukema, and Sucic, Inter is also considering their own talents out on loan. The standout name is Francesco Pio Esposito, a striker born in 2005 owned by Inter and currently on loan to Spezia, where he’s making waves in Serie B with 11 goals in 21 games since the start of the season. Inzaghi has a specific plan for him, which includes returning in June to participate in the Club World Cup and evaluate his growth.
