The ongoing investigation by the Anti-Mafia Directorate, dubbed “Double Curva,” which led to the arrest of 19 Inter and Milan ultras on September 30th, has effectively dismantled the leadership of both clubs’ fan groups. As the probe continues at a rapid pace, all club members mentioned in wiretaps are being called to testify as informed persons.
Calciomercato report that while the clubs are not currently under criminal investigation, they face a preventive procedure that could lead to external administration if their relationships with ultras are not severed. The sporting implications, however, remain complex.
FIGC Prosecutor Giuseppe Chiné has not yet received any files from the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office. According to reports, the process will be lengthy as the investigation is still ongoing. Chief Prosecutor Marcello Viola prefers to wait until the investigations reach a higher level of “maturity” before responding to the FIGC Prosecutor’s requests.
Regarding potential sanctions, point deductions seem unlikely based on current evidence from wiretaps. More probable is a scenario involving heavy financial fines and bans for certain executives, similar to what happened to Juventus and Andrea Agnelli following the Alto Piemonte investigation by the Turin Prosecutor’s Office.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Mafia Commission has declared its intention to intervene. They have already acquired the case files and will officially request a special committee. PD group leader Walter Verini confirmed that club presidents Marotta and Scaroni will be heard: “Commission President Chiara Colosimo has already informally communicated that she will accept my request. It’s likely that after reviewing the documents, we will proceed with hearings of the Milan club presidents and other individuals useful for reconstructing the case. We must address a problem that isn’t just limited to Milan. It’s well-known that this situation exists in many Italian stadiums, with a dangerous connection between ultras and organized crime. And clubs often turn a blind eye.”
