Inter Milan face stalemate with Arnautovic and Correa: Contract termination considered

Start

As Inter Milan prepare for their Serie A opener against Genoa, sporting their newly earned Scudetto and second star, the club finds itself in a transfer market stalemate. While Simone Inzaghi’s squad has been bolstered by the free transfers of Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski, along with the acquisition of goalkeeper Josep Martinez from Genoa, the team is still grappling with some challenging outgoing transfers before the August 31 deadline.

Calciomercato detail how the focus remains on Marko Arnautovic and Joaquin Correa, whose underwhelming performances in recent friendlies have only intensified the club’s desire to move them on. Both players represent significant investments that have failed to deliver on the pitch, and their departures could free up salary space and generate funds for potential reinforcements, such as Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson.

Correa, acquired for €30 million from Lazio with a net salary of €3.5 million, has so far rebuffed interest from Saudi clubs following an unsuccessful loan spell at Marseille. Arnautovic, signed for €8 million from Bologna at 35 years old with a substantial salary, has dismissed inquiries from Turkish teams.

These situations pose a dilemma for Inter, as Inzaghi’s preferred attacking options are clearly Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram, and new arrival Mehdi Taremi. With Arnautovic and Correa seemingly surplus to requirements, their contracts – both running until June 30, 2025 – could become a financial burden.

If suitable arrangements cannot be found, Inter is reportedly considering the option of terminating both players’ contracts. This drastic measure underscores the club’s determination to resolve these issues and potentially reinvest in the squad.

Adding to Inter’s transfer market challenges is the situation surrounding Martin Satriano. The young Uruguayan striker was expected to complete a permanent move to Brest for around €6 million following successful loan spells. However, Satriano’s hesitation has complicated the deal, with the possibility that he may be holding out for more attractive offers.
