Inter Milan face Injury concerns following Supercoppa defeat

Start

Inter Milan are navigating a challenging period following their recent defeat to AC Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana, where they lost 3-2 after leading 2-0. The match, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, not only ended in disappointment but also raised concerns about player fitness ahead of their upcoming Serie A clash against Venezia.

The injury woes began with Hakan Calhanoglu, who was forced to leave the pitch in the first half due to a muscle issue affecting his hamstring. His exit came at a critical moment, as Inter was looking to maintain momentum after taking an early lead through Lautaro Martinez and Mehdi Taremi. Calhanoglu’s absence will be felt as he plays a pivotal role in orchestrating Inter’s midfield.

Adding to the injury concerns, Stefan de Vrij was substituted late in the game for Matteo Darmian. Initially, there were fears that de Vrij had suffered a similar muscular issue to Calhanoglu. However, it was later clarified that he was experiencing cramps, which should not sideline him for an extended period.

Another defender, Yann Bisseck, completed the match but did so while not performing at his best. His fitness will be evaluated as the team prepares for their next match. The coaching staff will need to assess whether he can contribute effectively against Venezia or if adjustments are necessary.

Looking ahead to Sunday’s fixture, Inter will also be monitoring the recovery of Francesco Acerbi and Benjamin Pavard. Both defenders have been nursing injuries but are on the path to returning to full fitness. Pavard is particularly close to rejoining the squad and could provide a much-needed boost to the defensive line. Meanwhile, Marcus Thuram is also expected back in action soon, which would enhance Inter’s attacking options.
