The Gran Galà del Calcio 2024, held at Milan’s “Super Studio Maxi,” turned into a celebration of Inter Milan’s excellence. The Nerazzurri swept the awards, claiming titles for Player of the Year, Club of the Year, Coach of the Year, and Goal of the Year.
Simone Inzaghi, honored as the best coach of the previous season, led his team to an impressive haul of accolades. Lautaro Martinez was voted the best player of the 2023-24 season, while Inter Milan secured the title of best club. The goal of the year, as chosen by over 30,000 fans through the Gala’s website, went to Marcus Thuram for his spectacular strike against AC Milan in the derby on September 16, 2023.
The awards extended beyond the first team, with Francesco Pio Esposito, an Inter-owned striker on loan to Spezia, named the best young player in Serie B.
The Italian Footballers’ Association (AIC) also unveiled their Team of the Year, featuring a strong Inter Milan presence. The 4-3-3 formation included Sommer in goal, Bellanova and Dimarco as fullbacks, and Bastoni in central defense. The midfield boasted Barella and Calhanoglu, while the attack featured both Lautaro and Thuram.
Inter’s stars graced the red carpet, accompanied by the club’s leadership, including Marotta, Ausilio, and Zanetti. Coach Inzaghi shared his thoughts on the award, emphasizing the team’s potential for continued success this year despite strengthened competition.
The evening took on an ambitious tone as Lautaro, Thuram, and Sommer collectively raised expectations for the season. “Our goal is to win both the league and the Champions League,” Lautaro declared, highlighting the importance of a winning mentality. Thuram echoed this sentiment, stating that playing for Inter comes with the clear objective of winning all competitions.
Goalkeeper Sommer added to the chorus of ambition, suggesting that the team aims to surpass last year’s achievements, with a particular focus on retaining the Serie A title.
