Reports from Italy suggest Inter could make a bid for Roma defender Chris Smalling if he fails to agree a contract extension with the Giallorossi. The 33-year-old’s existing deal ends in June 2023 but he holds a unilateral option in his contract which would enable him to renew with the capital club until 2024 once he completes 50% of all season appearances.
Radio Radio report that if Roma do not agree a new deal with Smalling, then the defender could remain in Italy by agreeing a free transfer to Inter with Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi supposedly an admirer of the English centre-back.
Smalling joined Roma in 2020 and quickly became a fan favourite with his reliable performances at the back, making 117 appearances over three seasons and scoring 10 goals in all competitions.
