Inter in talks with Chelsea to extend Lukaku loan

Start

Chelsea are reportedly not interested in bringing Romelu Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge, so Inter have opened talks to extend his loan for another season. The Belgian striker only recently returned to action, playing for his national side against Croatia in a must win World Cup game that saw him miss a host of chances. The 29-year-old was visibly upset after the game and La Gazzetta dello Sport report that he will be skipping his vacation in order to return to Italy to prepare for the second half of the season.

The report also suggests that Inter and Chelsea management have discussed the possibility of extending his loan for another season so that the Nerazzurri don’t have to sign him outright at the end of the 2022/23 season.

The Blues have decided Lukaku doesn’t feature in their plans for the future and are prepared to let him go, but will need to generate around €70 million from his sale to avoid a capital loss.

An extended loan deal would allow Inter to spread the cost, especially as the player is keen to remain in Milan and isn’t considering leaving when his loan spell ends.
