Inter Milan have set its sights on a new midfield prospect, Rocco Reitz, the talented 22-year-old from Borussia Mönchengladbach. According to Sky Sports Germany, the young German international has caught the attention of both Inter and Brighton, attracted not only by his skills but also by his contract situation.
Reitz recently extended his contract until 2028, but it includes an intriguing clause effective from 2026 that could allow him to leave for approximately 20 million euros. This potential deal is particularly appealing considering Reitz’s status as one of German football’s most promising talents.
Despite his young age, Reitz has already become a cornerstone of Borussia Mönchengladbach, the club where he grew up and spent most of his career, except for two loan spells at Sint-Truiden in Belgium. The club considers him one of their most important players for the future, the face of the next generation at Gladbach. For this reason, his departure in the coming months – especially in January – is currently unlikely, as recently reiterated by CEO Roland Virkus.
Reitz joined Mönchengladbach in 2009 at the age of seven, progressing through all youth teams before making his Bundesliga debut in October 2020 at 18. Since then, he has amassed 55 official appearances, scoring six goals and providing four assists. His performances have earned him a starting spot in Germany’s Under-21 team and even a call-up to train with the senior national team before Euro 2024.
The 2023/24 season saw Reitz’s breakthrough, with 34 Bundesliga appearances yielding six goals and three assists. This form attracted interest from Lazio, Roma, and Manchester City. In the current season, he has already featured in 14 matches across all competitions, providing one assist.
Versatile and dynamic, Reitz can play various midfield roles but excels as a box-to-box midfielder. Standing at 176 cm, he combines technical skill with tenacity, adept at dribbling, tackling, and delivering precise long passes. His ability to make penetrating runs into opposition defenses is notable, though his finishing could improve.
Reitz’s playing style has drawn comparisons to Nicolò Barella’s early career at Cagliari, which led to his successful move to Inter. The Nerazzurri see similar potential in Reitz and are keen to secure his services, potentially viewing him as a future cornerstone of their midfield.
