Inter’s Curva Nord have released a statement on social media, saying they back Francesco Acerbi after he allegedly racially abused Napoli defender Juan Jesus. The incident took place during last weekends Serie A match between the two sides, with Acerbi reportedly claiming that Juan Jesus misheard his comments.
The Curva Nord have now released a statement (via TMW) in support of the defender, stating:
“Curva Nord stands by Francesco Acerbi. For days now, the alleged racial insult directed by one of our players towards Juan Jesus has been making headlines in newspapers, TV, and on every social media platform. We do not know what was said on the field, but knowing Francesco, we doubt that those words came from his mouth. This is a man who has battled and defeated cancer, a man of few words, and who has always proven himself a serious professional. Of course, if the racial insult is confirmed, we distance ourselves from such behavior. However, without concrete evidence, we stand by our Francesco.”
Acerbi risk a 10-match ban if found guilty of the offence, having already withdrawn from the Italy training camp this week.
