Inter: Barella is non-transferable

Start

Inter have reportedly turned down a bid from Newcastle United for Nicolo Barella, saying the player is non-transferrable. News broke yesterday that the Magpies were ‘close’ to agreeing a deal for the Italy international, having made a reported £50m for Barella.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report today that the Nerazzurri have no intention of selling the the 26-year-old, let alone for £50m. The newspaper writes:

“For president Steven Zhang and CEO Beppe Marotta, Barella has no price, he is simply untransferable. And even if the ways of the market are infinite, as well as the possible temptations coming from rich international clubs, the Nerazzurri club’s stance – at least on this chapter – appears decisive and adamant.”

“Barella’s importance in the Nerazzurri world is not only technical, but also charismatic. Barella is a fundamental cog for Inzaghi: first defender when there is need to bring high pressure, but also first attacker in the opponent’s area, with insertions without the ball. And inside the locker room he has a recognized leadership, such as the motivation he knows how to transmit to the Meazza crowd.”

“In 2019 he waited for Inter, despite the pressure of Roma and Napoli on Cagliari. Because Nicolò dreamed of the Nerazzurri jersey since he was a child, and as soon as the opportunity was there he pushed to marry the Inter project. And with Inter he became great: he won a Scudetto, two Italian Cups, two Super Cups. He has tasted the magic of Champions LEague nights, thanks to which he later won a place in the midfield of the 2021 European champion Italy. Bare is the symbol of Inter’s present and future: untransferable.”
