Start

Inter and Milan are poised to move forward with plans for a new stadium in the San Siro area. The clubs are preparing to submit a formal expression of interest for the construction of a new facility and the development of surrounding areas, along with guidelines for repurposing the current Giuseppe Meazza stadium.

Calciomercato report that this development emerged from a meeting held in Rome between club executives, representatives from the two ownership groups (Oaktree Capital and RedBird Capital Partners), Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala, Superintendent Emanuela Carpani, Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli, and Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi.

According to a statement from the Milan City Council, the ministers were presented with the proposal for constructing the new stadium in the San Siro area and guidelines for the future of the old facility, which had already been shared with the superintendent. All parties involved expressed appreciation and satisfaction with the plans.

The clubs are expected to submit their expression of interest shortly, which will allow the process to move forward. Simultaneously, an appraisal from the Revenue Agency is awaited to provide the necessary framework for evaluating the areas and the stadium, which the clubs intend to purchase from the administration.

The Milan City Council’s statement highlighted that the meeting participants discussed the hypothesis of building the new Milan stadium at San Siro, developing the surrounding areas, and outlining plans for repurposing the Meazza stadium. The statement emphasized that all interlocutors showed appreciation and satisfaction with the proposals.

This move represents a significant step forward in the long-running saga of Milan’s new stadium project, potentially keeping both Inter and Milan in their historic San Siro location while providing them with a modern facility to compete with Europe’s top clubs.
