Lazio defender Mario Gila shared his thoughts in an interview with Spanish outlet Relevo, discussing the team’s objectives for the season, his current situation, and his future with the club.
When asked about Lazio’s goals, Gila stated, “Our objective is to take it one game at a time. We have the ability and the level to compete in the Champions League. We did it a couple of years ago, and we want to do it again. Right now, we are managing to maintain consistency across all competitions; we even defeated Napoli in the Cup. We have 20 players, and between matches, everyone rests so they can give 100% and show their level. We stay calm but enjoy the positive things.”
Reflecting on his present and future, Gila expressed contentment with his role at Lazio: “I am very happy. Since last year, I started playing midway through the season, and everything is going very well. For a player, being a special figure is very important. At this moment, I am happy to be here. After that, whatever happens, I am ready to listen to everything. I have ambitions, and if there are options, I will listen to them and evaluate them. But I am very happy here; the team values me.”
Gila also praised Lazio’s head coach Maurizio Sarri: “He is a spectacular coach. From a defensive standpoint, he studies everything down to the millimeter and has helped me grow a lot. After three years, the team needed a change; he was the first to notice that and stepped aside.”
Discussing Lazio’s recent match against Inter, Gila reflected on the challenges faced during that game: “It was a difficult match because in the first half-hour we were quite good. We had control of the game. However, we made the mistake of conceding a penalty, which gave them confidence and caused us to slow down a bit. It felt like an exaggerated result, but credit goes to them; we need to work so that it doesn’t happen again.”
