Igor Tudor: “I didn’t expect to win like this, I’m happy to have started on the right foot”

New Lazio coach Igor Tudor says he didn’t expect to beat Juventus in the last minute of injury time: “I’m happy to have started on the right foot”. The Biancocelesti had the better of the chances but had to wait until stoppage time to score the decisive goal through Adam Marusic. Speaking with DAZN in the post match, Tudor was delighted with the victory, and admitted the late win was a surprise:

“I didn’t expect to win it like this. I couldn’t have asked for a better start; the boys interpreted the game in the best possible way. Happy to have started on the right foot.”

Regarding the similarity between Marusic’s goal and Provedel’s goal in the Champions League, Tudor preferred to focus on the present and the team’s work: “I don’t believe so much in coincidences. There is work, yes, there is only the present for me. Sunday is the consequence of the work done during the week.”

When asked what he liked most about the game, Tudor emphasized the energy the players displayed and their ability to endure in crucial moments: “I liked the energy the boys put on the field and the ability to suffer in the right moments. We need to be more aggressive inside the box, but with time, we will grow.”

Regarding Kamada’s performance, Tudor praised the player and expressed confidence in his future with the team: “Kamada had an important game. He is a golden boy; I liked him a lot. One week is little time to get to know the players, but I know that with me, he will have space.”

Finally, on Immobile’s initial exclusion from the starting lineup, Tudor stressed his confidence in the striker and the crucial role of players in imposing their determination on the field: “He already knew he wouldn’t start. Ciro came in well; he and Castellanos are great attackers. I try to motivate them, but the determination they bring on the field depends on them.”
