Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the former Senior Advisor of RedBird, spoke to DAZN just before the kickoff of the Serie A match between Milan and Genoa, emphasizing his support for head coach Paulo Fonseca and the need for the team to step up their performance.
Reflecting on the team’s aspirations, Ibrahimovic stated, “We hope to make history. That’s what we are striving for.” He echoed Fonseca’s sentiments regarding the need for a reaction from the players following disappointing performances. “The coach is looking for a reaction, especially after a game like that. What he said publicly, he also expressed privately. If I were a player, I would react because if the coach is not happy, you have to do more. We agree with him; the team must do more, and we need to push them to achieve that.”
Ibrahimovic also addressed the situation surrounding Theo Hernandez, who has faced scrutiny recently. “It’s similar to what happened with Rafa Leao a few weeks ago. Theo is one of the best left-backs in the world; we want him to be at his best, and he will return to form,” he asserted. He acknowledged that while Fonseca makes decisions that everyone respects, it is crucial for players to make an impact when they return to the field.
The former striker highlighted the importance of seizing opportunities for younger players as well. “It depends on them too; they must seize their chances. This is a great opportunity for them, and we are very curious to see how they perform. We trust our talents who train almost every day with the first team: when the opportunity arises, they must take it.”
