Ahead of Argentina’s opening fixture of the 2022 World Cup against Saudi Arabia, Scaloni highly praised Juventus central midfielder Leandro Paredes.
Since moving on a loan from PSG with an option to buy, the 28 year-old midfielder has only featured in nine matches across all competitions for the Bianconeri after sustaining a muscular injury.
However, the deep-lying playmaker managed to recover in time for national tournament, resulting in Scaloni including the Argentine within his 26-man roster that will feature in Doha.
While speaking to the media, as relayed by Tuttomercatoweb, the National team boss expressed the immense amount of quality he views within Paredes as a midfielder, comparing him to Juventus legend Andrea Pirlo:
“He has had a tactical evolution similar to Pirlo’s, with whom he has the same technique: when he has the pitch in front of him he makes everything easy, and he has the vertical pass that we really appreciate. We want people with good footing and one or two who can break the lines.”
