Hellas Verona have issued a statement, denying that their offices were searched by Italy’s Guardia Di Finanza. La Gazzetta dello Sport reported earlier today that the clubs headquarters were raided by the Italian financial police over suspected tax evasion.
Club President Maurizio Setti and 25 other people are all reportedly investigation for suspected tax evasion with the report claiming that investigators suspect Verona registered sponsorship deals through fake invoices, allowing them to evade €10m in taxes in the process.
The club have now issues a brief statement, saying:
“The Guardia di Finanza is carrying out an investigation into a third-party company and not into Hellas Verona . No search was carried out either at the headquarters or elsewhere.”
