Milan legend Ruud Gullit believes the club are ‘fighting and suffering’ this season but youngster Charles De Ketelaere needs time to show his best. The Rossoneri have struggled in their title defence but a recent change in formation has led to three wins in a row, including a victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League. Speaking with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Gullit shared his thoughts on Milan’s season to date, including De Ketelaere, who has struggled to show his best in Serie A:
“How do I judge the season so far? Difficult. They are fighting and suffering. So far not everything has been as easy as last year.
Maybe because in 2021-22 everything went in the right direction, while now… In this first part of the season things have been more difficult than what everyone expected, but in football you never know: they won in the Champions League the round of 16 first leg against Tottenham. Let’s see how it ends.
“De Ketelaere? The Belgian is young and is a great talent. Italian football is not simple and you have to understand its difficulties and adapt to tactics. He had started well, but then he got a little lost. I am convinced that, if they give him time and trust, he will do well.”
