Genoa midfielder Albert Gudmundsson played down talks of moving to Juventus but admitted he doesn’t know what the future holds. The Icelandic international has been one of the revelations of the season, prompting links with the likes of Juventus and Inter, something he played down when talking with Sky Sport Italia ahead of Genoa’s match with the Old Lady:
“I love football, it was my first love, and I was in love with Maradona, even though I never saw him play. I’m not at his level, but I’m not bad. The fact that people stop me doesn’t bother me, on the contrary, in Iceland, we all know each other and always greet each other on the street.”
“My first goal with the Genoa shirt was against Juve, two years ago at Marassi, I felt great emotions. And I also scored at home this year. We have to think as a team, it’s important to get a result, not just score. Sunday won’t be easy, but we always take the field to try to win.”
“Penalties? We have great specialists in the team, both Retegui and I would like to take penalties. Before each game, there is always a list with names, and mine was the first, for all the possible penalties of the match. It was clear. But I really understand Mateo, he has a great desire to do well. Who will take them in the future always depends on the coach: he writes the list and decides. I missed for the first time, but the most important thing is that I still managed to score on the goalkeeper’s rebound. With that goal, I reached Diego Milito’s record, the last Genoa player to reach double figures in two consecutive seasons. He was a fantastic player.”
“Playing again with Koopmeiners like at AZ and maybe at Juve? In football, never say never, but I don’t know. I don’t know his future, and to be honest, not even mine. It would still be nice to play with him again; he’s a fantastic player.”
