Lecce manager Luca Gotti addressed the media following his team’s match against Bologna, expressing disappointment with their inability to capitalize on counter-attacking opportunities.
Gotti began by analyzing what went wrong for Lecce: “We weren’t able to maintain the result until the end. Moreover, I expected us to be able to clean up the balls we recovered from Bologna. Great credit to them as they are very good at re-pressing their opponents, but I expected we could have more chances to hurt them. The key for us was counterattacks. In the second half, the game had taken a different direction, and I was confident we could challenge Bologna in other ways too. In the end, we dropped back too many times.”
When asked about the need for a striker with different reading abilities and Dorgu’s performance, Gotti responded: “I’m very happy with Krstovic. As for Dorgu, he was chosen in that position today to give compactness and solidity to the midfield with a player who has compactness and speed for offensive action.”
Regarding Bologna’s attacks on the left flank, Gotti admitted: “We actually suffered more than we should have in that area of the field.”
The manager also praised Lecce’s overall situation: “The reality of Lecce is wonderful. It’s a reality born from the desire to plan, program, try and succeed with what you can, without ever taking a step longer than your leg.”
On the topic of player fitness, Gotti provided updates: “Sansone is improving his condition, but he still carries some fears since he had a problem with his spine, and the phase of contact and aerial play still involuntarily puts him in difficulty. Today I didn’t want to risk him earlier because I would have also had to replace players who were doing well, but I wanted to rely on the wisdom of two players like Rebic and Sansone.”
Finally, when asked about how much the current team reflects his vision, Gotti explained: “There’s a Lecce from last year and a Lecce from the new season. Four or five players have left and others have arrived, so we’re looking for new balances. We’re now in this phase of play and of the season, but it doesn’t mean we won’t try something else from here to the end of our journey.”
