Gotti: “I’m not content with losing honorably”

Start

Lecce suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in Serie A, falling 1-0 to league leaders Napoli. The loss leaves the Giallorossi with just five points after nine rounds of the season. Following the match, Lecce’s manager Luca Gotti shared his thoughts on the team’s performance and their current situation.

Gotti began by praising his team’s unity and determination: “I saw a team that was extremely compact, not just in terms of football but also in their desire to get out of this situation we’ve put ourselves in. There’s a practical demonstration of wanting to get out of it quickly and well.”

Discussing his tactical choices, particularly the inclusion of Lameck Banda, Gotti explained: “The choice was easy. It’s one of the first times I’ve had him available with more minutes. Today I couldn’t bring myself to do without him. He can give us a great contribution. Today was a game of great containment, and we didn’t want to concede many chances to Napoli. It’s not always like this, though. We still created opportunities. In this part of the season, we’ve had a lot of difficulty in converting our chances.”

Despite the narrow loss to a strong Napoli side, Gotti expressed his dissatisfaction with merely putting up a good fight: “I’m not content with losing honorably. I don’t like to lose. Today’s game is very different from the one against Fiorentina, but I’m not satisfied. I’ll take the team’s attitude, not only up to Napoli’s goal but also the desire to try and equalize. I’ll only accept this attitude if we see it again in the upcoming matches.”
