La Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli wants to say goodbye to the club within seven days. The Partenopei director has reportedly agreed a five-year deal to take over at Juventus this summer and his working to free himself from the final year of his contract with Napoli.
Gazzetta claim there is a ‘clear agenda in the dialogue between Cristiano Giuntoli and the top management of Juventus, with tight deadlines.’ The current Napoli sporting director expects to get the green light from president Aurelio De Laurentiis by Wednesday or, at most, in the following days. For his part, De Laurentiis has hinted that he wants to make use of the final year of Giuntoli’s contract, which expires in 2024.
Despite these objective difficulties Gazzetta report that at Juve, there is a sense of cautious optimism to operationalize a move that they have been planning at Continassa for at least a month. In the package is a five-year contract of €1.5 million net per season, and with that in mind, Giuntoli is already scheduled to be accompanied by chief scouts Giuseppe Pompilio and Stefano Stefanelli, the latter now at Cesena.
Gazzetta suggest that Giuntoli could give up some of the accrued bonuses from over the years, in particular those related to the last season, in an effort to be released from his contract with Napoli.
The report also outlines how if the move is completed in the coming days, it is possible that as early as next week there could be the first technical summit between the new sporting director and Juve coach Max Allegri. In spite of the extra-football uncertainties, at Continassa they want to draw up the new plans in a tight schedule.
Should De Laurentiis decide not to free his director, Juventus ownership has already given precise indications on what to do, even gearing up for a long wait. In this eventuality, current D.S. Giovanni Manna is a candidate to retain the role to initiate contacts for the most urgent operations this summer.
