Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has confirmed that he doesn’t hold out much hope of signing Moroccan international Azzedine Ounahi. The 22-year-old was closely linked with a move to Naples in recent weeks, but the interest of Premier League side Leeds seems to have become the players focus for now.
Speaking to SportMediaset ahead of Napoli’s Coppa Italia loss to Cremonese, Giuntoli clarified the situation on Ounahi and was also asked about the future of striker Victor Osimhen:
“We have never been particularly optimistic about signing Azzedine Ounahi. He’s a good footballer, but we are more focused on our squad and doing well day-to-day. We are in talks for a swap of goalkeepers. We’ll see.
Osimhen? Everybody is at this stage. He’s faring very well and he has to keep it up. The future will tell us how much he might be worthy. He has to continue playing as he’s currently doing.”
A report from SportItalia’s Alfredo Pedullà suggests that Napoli are not optimistic on their chances of signing Ounahi, given that Leeds and Leicester City would be prepared to offer more money. The Partenopei ate pinning their hopes on the players will to join them which may yet be the deciding factor.
