Olivier Giroud spoke about his stint in goal during Milan’s 1-0 win over Genoa: ‘I didn’t think I’d experience this type of emotion.’ The Rossoneri took a late lead through Christian Pulisic, only for goalkeeper Mike Maignan to be sent off with no remaining substitutions. Giroud spent injury time between the sticks, and even pulled off an important save that helped push Milan to the top of the table:
Tell me about these crazy final minutes with your exit…
“I thought I had to go for the ball, I relied on courage and went for the ball. I didn’t think I’d experience this type of emotion, but it’s very important to have made that save.”
Why did you get in between the sticks?
“I think I was the tallest so I went to goal. As a child, I liked to be a keeper. I experienced a special emotion when I made the save, almost like a goal.”
The table…
“It was very important to win here against this team that beat Lazio and Roma and drew with Napoli. We knew it was difficult, they started with great intensity. We weren’t perfect but the important thing was the three points.”
