Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez recently opened up about his near-move to AC Milan, revealing his excitement at the prospect of joining the Italian giants. The Mexican forward, who has been a target for Milan in the current transfer window, shared his thoughts on a podcast, shedding light on the failed transfer attempt from last summer.
Calciomercato detail how Milan have identified Gimenez as their primary target to bolster their attacking options for the second half of the season. While negotiations have been complex in the final days of the January transfer window, this isn’t the first time the Rossoneri have shown interest in the 23-year-old.
Gimenez recalled the moment when Milan approached him: “On the last day, Milan came in with an offer, which was half of what Nottingham Forest had proposed. Obviously, the club said no to me, saying I had cost them a great opportunity to make money. I understand the club’s interests. I had to stay.”
The striker expressed his awe at Milan’s interest, stating, “It would have been a great opportunity. Other chances will come, but when the Rossoneri called me, I thought: ‘wow’.”
Reflecting on his career aspirations, Gimenez shared, “I want to be the Mexican player with the most goals. I’ll do everything possible to achieve that. I want to go to one of the best teams in the world. I don’t want to say which one because then it won’t come true,” he added with a laugh.
