Billy Gilmour is already settling into life at Napoli, and revealed that Roberto De Zerbi told him to enjoy his time at the club. The Scottish midfielder, who recently joined from Brighton, is eagerly awaiting his debut in the Azzurri shirt. In the meantime, he’s been getting to know his new surroundings and has shared some interesting anecdotes about his former manager Roberto De Zerbi and his new boss Antonio Conte.
In a video released on Napoli’s social media channels, Gilmour spoke warmly about De Zerbi, who played a crucial role in revitalizing his career at Brighton after a challenging spell at Chelsea. The young midfielder revealed that De Zerbi reached out to him following his move to Italy:
“When he found out, he called me on FaceTime. He told me to enjoy the experience because Naples is fun like me, so I’ll love it.”
Gilmour, 23, is also looking forward to working with Conte, whom he briefly encountered during his time in Chelsea’s youth setup. He shared an interesting backstory about their previous interaction:
“I’m excited. When I was younger, he was coaching Chelsea. When I signed with Chelsea, I met him, so I have a photo with him taken when I was a kid.”
The Scottish international expressed his enthusiasm about playing under Conte, highlighting the manager’s winning pedigree:
“He has won many trophies. He’s used to winning, so I’m excited. I hope we’ll be able to do something special. This enthusiasm will also help us in the final part of the season.”
