Gilardino: “The First Half Was Too Ugly to Be True”

Start

Alberto Gilardino says Genoa’s first half performance against Monza was ‘too ugly to be true’, following their 3-2 defeat to the Rossoblu. Speaking with Sky Sport, Gilardino analysed the match as he saw it, pinpointing the first ’45 as their undoing:

“It’s a shame about the first half, too ugly to be true. In the second, however, we took control of the game as we know how to do. Now, heads down and work: the season is long, and we need points. In the last two months, we’ll have to give our all. I can’t blame my boys for the attitude I saw in the second half.”

Gilardino continued, “Vitinha came on very well regardless of the goal, we had to bring home the game even just for a point, especially considering the efforts made: it’s a level of maturity that we all want to achieve together.”

The coach concluded, “We tried to change strategy during the game. I’m trying to give this period to my boys: to fight until the end, trying to find the right attitude to bring it home. Retegui, Guðmundsson, and Vitinha together? I thought about it, but I have to try to maintain a balance, I’m making evaluations. We’ll see what happens.”
