Genoa coach Alberto Gilardino confirmed that striker Mateo Retegui will be out of their next two league matches. Retegui joined I Grifone in the summer and has already scored 5 goals in 8 appearances across all competitions, quickly becoming indispensable to the club. Speaking after Genoa’s injury time Coppa Italia win over Reggina, Gilardino confirmed that they are set to lose the 24-year-old for at least two games, also making him a serious doubt for Italy’s next matches in November:
“I wanted to test those who had had little space. We were often found unprepared in the defensive phase. The substitutes decided the game. Winning helps to win and keeps morale high. In the first half we made a lot of mistakes in the output.”
“Messias is continuing to work to return as soon as possible. As for Retegui, he won’t be there in Cagliari and probably not even against Verona. We assess his condition day by day.”
