In the aftermath of Genoa’s 3-0 loss to Juventus, manager Alberto Gilardino addressed the media, discussing his team’s performance and the challenges they face. He began by acknowledging the impact of missing key players while emphasizing the need to avoid excuses.

“Players like Messias and Ekuban are important due to their physical and technical qualities, and we miss them, but we can’t afford to create alibis for ourselves,” Gilardino stated.

The manager then touched on tactical adjustments, particularly in light of Gudmundsson’s absence: “Having lost Gudmundsson, Miretti should be the player tasked with linking the midfield and attack.”

Reflecting on the match itself, Gilardino noted, “The first half was good, the second was affected by de Winter’s naivety: when you give space to big teams, this happens. We concede goals too easily, so we need to start by consolidating our defensive phase and then begin a growth process.”

He elaborated on the team’s strategy against Juventus: “We had to sacrifice ourselves in the defensive phase and propose ourselves when Juventus put us in a position to attack.”

Gilardino also highlighted the youth in his squad, reminding everyone, “Let’s remember that a player born in 2008 played today.”

Addressing the broader context of Genoa’s season, including injuries and other setbacks, the manager concluded, “Various things have happened that it’s useless to revisit, including injuries: this is the kind of championship that awaits us, it must be clear to everyone, and for this reason we must hold on and work on the field for 15/16 hours.”
