Genoa coach Alberto Gilardino is preparing for their  away match against Venezia and hopes to count on Ruslan Malinovskyi to make the difference. After securing a good point against Roma, Genoa will take the field at the Penzo stadium against Eusebio Di Francesco’s team. Ahead of this afternoon’s game, the Rossoblu coach spoke at a press conference from the Gianluca Signorini sports center in Pegli, also focusing on some individual players:

“When will we see the real Vitinha? Vitor is doing well, he has enthusiasm and desire to continue his journey to help the team. He and the team will need to be good at putting him in the best conditions to express himself. Tomorrow, if he’s on the field, he can have a great game.”

Regarding potential rotation, Gilardino said: “We think about one game at a time. The thought, energy, total focus is on Venezia. From tomorrow evening, when we return, we’ll think about the next game and from Wednesday evening at midnight we’ll think about the one after. We need to focus on one game at a time.”

On tactical formations, the coach explained: “The predisposition and availability that all teams have at a mental level, not only in European competitions but also in the Italian championship, is that. I base myself on who I have available, on the characteristics of the players available and I try to maximize their qualities. Based on that, there is a growth path. There must always be a growth path in being able to build in the opponent’s half of the field, being able to arrive with players inside the opponent’s penalty area to hurt the opponent and be more incisive in the opponent’s half of the field.”

When asked about Malinovskyi’s condition, Gilardino responded: “Ruslan is doing well, he’s a player like Badelj or Bani who must be, and is, a point of reference in this team for personality, technical skills and reading of games. They transmit these to the team. Ruslan is doing well and I need an important game from him because I know he can play games of a certain type. I hope to see him at 100% and that he can make a difference.”

Commenting on Gollini’s praise for Genoa, Gilardino said: “In these years that I’ve been leading Genoa, I’ve tried to create a group not only through football ideas, but also motivations on a moral level. This is fundamental, that everyone feels part of this journey and that there is growth from everyone in this journey. The will is to give continuity to this type of situation. At the same time, performances become decisive and the result even more so.”
