Genoa’s Pierluigi Gollini to undergo surgery

Start

Genoa have confirmed that goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini is set to undergo surgery for a benign tumor.  The club announced the news with the following statement:

“Genoa CFC announces that Pierluigi Gollini will undergo surgery on Thursday to remove an adipose neoplasm in the right peri-trochanteric region, which, due to trauma related to his role, has caused inflammation and pain.”

The former Atalanta, Fiorentina, and Napoli goalkeeper is scheduled for surgery on Thursday to address what is commonly known as a lipoma – a benign tumor that is one of the most common and easily treatable forms of soft tissue growths. These formations are generally harmless and often cause only discomfort or aesthetic concerns. In Gollini’s case, the decision has been made to remove it.

The lipoma is located in the “peri-trochanteric” region, near the hip, and has been causing the goalkeeper pain and inflammation, particularly when diving to defend the goal. While recovery times are difficult to estimate precisely, they are not expected to be as lengthy as those for muscular injuries.

Gollini will certainly miss the upcoming match against Bologna this weekend. His availability for subsequent matches will need to be evaluated based on his post-surgery recovery progress.

This surgical intervention aims to alleviate the discomfort Gollini has been experiencing and allow him to return to his goalkeeping duties without the hindrance of pain or inflammation caused by the adipose neoplasm.
