Genoa’s Malinovskyi undergoes successful ankle surgery

Start

Genoa midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi has undergone successful surgery on his right ankle following a severe injury sustained during the match against Venezia. The Ukrainian player was forced to leave the field on a stretcher, raising immediate concerns about the severity of his condition.

Medical examinations confirmed the worst fears, revealing a joint dislocation and fibula fracture. Malinovskyi was promptly operated on the morning of September 22nd.

The club released an official statement regarding the player’s condition:

“Ruslan Malinovskyi underwent surgery on his right ankle this morning. The procedure, performed by Prof. Federico Santolini and his team, was completely successful. The player is doing well and will begin rehabilitation at the Club’s facilities in the coming days.”

While the recovery timeline remains uncertain, the initial prognosis suggests a lengthy absence for the talented midfielder. The injury comes as a significant blow to manager Alberto Gilardino and the Genoa squad, who have already faced challenges in the early stages of the Serie A season.

Malinovskyi, who joined Genoa after successful spells with Atalanta and a brief stint at Marseille, had made an immediate impact for the Rossoblu. In his first season back in Serie A, he contributed four goals and one assist, proving to be a valuable asset for Gilardino’s side.

The injury setback adds to Genoa’s struggles this season, as the team has managed only five points from their first five matches. The loss of Malinovskyi’s creativity and goal-scoring ability will undoubtedly be felt as Genoa aims to improve their position in the league table.
