Genoa president Zangrillo: ‘Are there too much many games? I don’t think so, look at the NBA’

Genoa president Alberto Zangrillo doesn’t believe that footballers are playing too many matches, pointing to the NBA as an example. Zangrillo was speaking after a meeting of the Serie A League Assembly, and briefly touched on a number of matters relating to his club.

Regarding the upcoming match against Roma, Zangrillo acknowledged the difficulty of the season, with half the team injured. He emphasized the importance of the group, stating, “Roma is a very tough team trying to find its balance, and we’re trying to confirm ourselves. We have many defensive injuries, but Gilardino has shown that with the group, we can patch things up.”

When asked about the issue of too many matches being played, Zangrillo offered a unique perspective: “We don’t participate in cups, so I don’t have a basis to express myself on this. Big clubs have this problem and also a very important player pool. I think of the NBA where they play every 2-3 days, I’m not worried. They are healthy and well-paid people, it’s right that they play.”

Addressing the upcoming derby in the Coppa Italia, Zangrillo said, “It’s useless to deny that the derby is a crucial match for the Genoese, but to remove pressure, I told the boys to focus on the championship. It’s clear that the derby is a match that must be won.”

Finally, Zangrillo expressed his satisfaction with Andrea Pinamonti: “I’m very happy with him, he has all the parameters to do well. He’s a vigorous Italian, he grew up in a healthy environment, and I have a lot of confidence in Andrea.”
