Genoa president Alberto Zangrillo was incensed following his teams 1-0 loss to Milan: “I don’t get angry about these things, but I have a lot of regret and bitterness.” The Rossoneri won the game with a late Christian Pulisic goal, but replays show that he may have used his arm to control the ball.
Speaking with Sky Sport Italia after the match, Zangrillo explained why he believes the goal should have been disallowed, while also taking aim at Mike Maignan for a ‘murderous’ challenge that earned him a red card:
“I don’t get angry about these things, but I have a lot of regret and bitterness. I am only here to demand respect for the almost 35,000 people who were at the stadium. Alberto Gilardino is not here because otherwise he would get a ban. I’m here so I will get the ban, so it doesn’t matter.”
“It is clear to everyone what happened tonight in the last five minutes. When there is no reasonable doubt we always succumb. It’s been like that for a long time now.”
“I have the utmost respect for referees, but the rules say that only when there is reasonable certainty can a decision be made, otherwise the referee’s first decision applies. ….But for me it’s very clear: it’s a foul with the hand and therefore not a goal, full stop. In addition we witnessed after a few minutes, a challenge that as a medic. I would call murderous, but that’s fine.”
