In a recent development, Genoa have signaled their willingness to discuss a potential transfer of Icelandic striker Albert Gudmundsson to Inter Milan. Johannes Spors, the Global Sports Director of Genoa, made revealing statements about the club’s stance on player transfers during an interview with Sky Sport’s Speciale Calciomercato (via Calciomercato).
Spors emphasized the importance of retaining players for their development but also acknowledged the club’s recent successful transfers of Dragusin and Martinez. He specifically mentioned Gudmundsson and Frendrup, describing them as different but equally crucial to the team.
“We’re in the middle of the transfer window, and it’s important for us to keep players to help them grow,” Spors stated. “We know the value of Gudmundsson and Frendrup. They’re very different, but both are very important to us. If someone were to knock on our door, we would open it and discuss.”
The director confirmed that both Gudmundsson and Frendrup are attracting interest from other clubs, which he views positively. “We know their value. For us, it’s a good thing when a player is followed by other teams. We look for young talent, and Gudmundsson is an example of how we develop players. I’m not afraid of clubs coming to ask for such a player.”
Spors also touched on other transfer activities, mentioning the club’s satisfaction with acquiring Gollini and ongoing negotiations for Hefti’s potential move to Hamburg. He stressed the importance of financial prudence, stating, “For every club in the world, it’s important to work within economic constraints and keep the budget under control. There aren’t many clubs that don’t have to pay attention to this, and unfortunately, Genoa isn’t one of them.”
