In a post-match press conference following Genoa’s 3-0 loss to Lazio, head coach Alberto Gilardino addressed the team’s performance and responded to questions about the potential signing of Mario Balotelli.
Gilardino began by acknowledging the team’s effort, stating, “I believe we had a good start to the game and stayed in it until the second goal. The boys gave everything. We’re in an emergency situation both in terms of starting lineup and bench options, but the players were in the game for 75 minutes.”
Regarding the rumors of Mario Balotelli joining the team, Gilardino cautioned against expecting too much from a single player. “Balotelli cannot solve all of Genoa’s problems on his own,” he said. “The team will be fundamental. If he arrives with the fire to make himself available, then he can and must be an added value.”
The coach also addressed the team’s current state, saying, “There’s a lot of anger about the defeat, we must be angry but not disappointed. We face a very difficult challenge, but gradually we will see the light. The team needs confidence and awareness through performances and results.”
When asked about tactical adjustments and the team’s defensive issues, Gilardino emphasized the importance of details: “We need to take even more care of the details and be even more precise. It’s not a tactical issue; precision and details make the difference, along with mental condition.”
Gilardino concluded by acknowledging the challenging situation Genoa faces: “We are called to perform a great feat. I am aware of this moment of great difficulty, and we must cling to any positive situation. We need to make the players feel important at this moment and prepare for the challenge against Fiorentina.”
