Genoa CEO Andres Blazquez held a lengthy meeting with representatives from all Genoa Clubs across Italy, addressing various concerns and providing insights into the club’s current situation and future plans.
Blazquez confirmed that: “Genoa is for sale. But at the moment, it’s still owned by 777 Partners.” He explained that any ownership change would require immediate notification to the Italian Football Federation, banks, and tax authorities, which hasn’t happened yet.
Regarding the club’s financial stability, Blazquez reassured fans: “A-Cap is a creditor of 777 who injected 20 million into Genoa when 777 faced difficulties, becoming a partner. They have no interest in disengaging from the club. In fact, they understand that investment will be needed in January to strengthen the team and have agreed to do so. In any case, Genoa is in good shape, there’s no need to worry.”
On the potential sale, Blazquez confirmed: “Genoa, like all clubs in the now dismantled 777 Football Group, is for sale. In the short to medium term, we will either sell the company or find a majority or minority partner to quickly return to sporting success. For now, A-Cap will support it financially, as they can’t afford for the club to be relegated and lose value.”
Addressing the transfer market, Blazquez stated: “Honestly, I can’t guarantee that no one will leave in January, but I don’t think we can sell our best players while the team is struggling. I can assure you that A-Cap understands we can’t conduct business by selling first and buying later as we did in summer. Currently, we need a striker, a backup for Messias, and a replacement for Malinovskyi. We’ll pursue these objectives in January.”
Blazquez also touched on recent transfer activities, including the departures of Gudmundsson and Coda, providing detailed explanations for each case.
Finally, regarding infrastructure, Blazquez discussed plans for the Ferraris stadium and the Badia degli Erzelli youth academy project: “We tried to handle the stadium alone, but the municipality was categorical: either both clubs (Genoa and Sampdoria) take it over, or nothing happens. We plan to start work on the Tribune at the beginning of the 2026-27 season. As for the Badia degli Erzelli, which will become the new home for our youth teams, I can say that by the end of 2024, the first young players will be able to set foot there.”
