Gazzetta: Zirkzee wants to leave Manchester United

Start

Juventus are intensifying their efforts to sign Joshua Zirkzee from Manchester United as they aim to bolster their squad and secure a Champions League qualification spot. The Dutch striker, who has struggled to find his footing in the Premier League, is a top target for Juventus manager Thiago Motta, who previously worked with Zirkzee at Bologna.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Manchester United appears open to Zirkzee’s departure but is seeking guarantees, while Juventus is pushing for a loan deal. The Turin club’s sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, has been actively working on reinforcing the team, especially in light of recent injuries that have hampered their performance in Serie A.

Juventus’ current league position, outside the top four and far from title contention, has increased the urgency for new signings. The club views the January transfer window as a lifeline to revitalize their season and appease a fanbase that has grown sceptical of Motta’s progress in terms of playing style.

Giuntoli recently hinted at the club’s interest in Zirkzee, stating they are attentive to market opportunities. The striker’s situation at Manchester United has become untenable, with the player reportedly leaving the pitch in tears after another substitution, despite the change in management from Ten Hag to Amorim.

While Juventus prioritizes defensive reinforcements due to injuries, they also recognize the need for attacking options. Zirkzee is seen as an ideal fit for Motta’s system, which favours a center-forward with playmaking abilities. The club has already reached a preliminary agreement with Zirkzee’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, who has previously negotiated with Juventus.

The main hurdle in the negotiations is the transfer formula. Juventus, constrained by financial limitations, is pushing for a straight loan or a loan with an option to buy. Manchester United, however, prefers a loan with an obligation to purchase. The good relationship between the clubs offers hope for a resolution, but direct contact has yet to be established.

As negotiations continue, Juventus remains alert to other potential targets, including Kolo Muani from PSG, Patrik Schick from Bayer Leverkusen, and Giacomo Raspadori from Napoli. With the transfer window just opening, there is ample time for Juventus to secure the reinforcements needed to climb back into Champions League contention and rejuvenate their campaign.
