La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee prefers a move to Milan this summer, despite having interest from a number of European teams. The Dutchman has enjoyed a stellar season while leading the Rossoblu’s attacking lineup and while his destination remains uncertain, his preference is reportedly clear.
Gazzetta write that:
“Zirkzee would gladly stay in Serie A to continue his growth, with Milan being a desirable destination. The newspaper outline how the current relationship between Milan and Zirkzee can be described as one of mutual admiration, and the Rossoneri have placed him at the top of their wish list, while the Bologna striker favors Pioli’s Milan. Having showcased his talent at San Siro, Zirkzee feels comfortable under pressure, evident in his exceptional performances against both Inter and Milan. He favors Milan over Bayern Munich, where he previously struggled to secure regular playing time.
“Milan offers Zirkzee an intriguing project, and while they may not be the favorites for the Serie A title next season, they can provide a unique platform for the emerging striker. At Milan, Zirkzee would inherit the prestigious number 9 shirt, shouldering the weight of past legends like Van Basten. This environment could either overwhelm an unprepared player or elevate one with a champion’s mentality.
“Milan is actively pursuing Zirkzee, although negotiations are expected to be complex. Bologna values Zirkzee similarly to Rasmus Hojlund, who was transferred to Manchester United for €75 million plus €10 million in bonuses. However, Milan cannot afford such lofty valuations and must seek alternative solutions. It’s conceivable that Milan could offer around €50 million, potentially including Alexis Saelemaekers in the deal, who is highly regarded by Bologna’s Thiago Motta.
“The foreign market, particularly the Premier League, could drastically alter the situation. Clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal possess significant purchasing power, making them formidable competitors. Additionally, Milan may face tough decisions regarding players like Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez, and Rafa Leao, who are coveted by other top clubs. The outcome of these negotiations could reshape Milan’s structure, ambitions, and overall trajectory.”
