A report from La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Juventus could be at risk of being banned from European competitions. The Bianconeri were handed a 15-point deduction after the FIGC prosecutor reopened an investigation into capital gains which looked at transfer dealings dating back to 2019.
Gazzetta report that UEFA could ban Juventus from all European competitions, citing ‘unsporting conduct’ following the wiretaps that led to Friday’s ruling. European football’s governing body is reportedly waiting for an outcome on the investigation into Juve’s payment of player salaries during the CVOID pandemic, the allegation being that the Bianconeri paid their players under the table.
Should that be proved, UEFA will have to review the previous settlement that they agreed in 2021 with Juventus where they were handed a €3.5m for breaching FFP parameters. Gazzetta claim the fine could increase to €23m with Juve also at risk of exclusion from European competitions,
Any potential decision may take a while to be reached as UEFA will need to follow the investigation in Italy before translating the fourteen thousand pages of documents into one of its official languages, of which Italian is not one. Gazzetta estimate the earlier this could take place would be June.
Any potential ban for the Bianconeri would only be valid if and when they qualify for European competitions.
