Atalanta boss Gian piero Gasperini thought his team gave a ‘great performance’ following their 8-2 rout of Salernitana. La Dea took the early lead through Jeremie Boga but were temporarily pegged back by a Boulaye Dia penalty before turning on the style to score a further seven goals.
Speaking to DAZN after the game, Gasperini expressed his happiness with the performance, but admitted he wasn’t happy about the early conceded goal:
“When you get a result like that you also accept the goals you conceded, on the first goal we were not so happy because we did not read a fairly simple play well. After that the team gave a great performance.
The ‘old’ Atalanta? When you do this kind of result it’s normal to look back, but it’s hard to make comparisons: that was a more technical team, now we are faster. That team did it many times, tonight we developed the game well, pressured and created quality goals. This gives us morale for the continuation of the championship.
Has Boga found his form again? We all hope so, we know very well his qualities. If he can be concrete yes, with his characteristics he turns games and becomes what we all expected.
Lookman? Usually the strong ones don’t take so long, I could also say Hojlund and Koopmeiners. He has already had experience, he is not a rookie . He knows football, he has been good at adapting to the way we play in attack. In this round he is the one who has contributed the most.”
The absence of Koopmeiners? I wanted him to take the penalty because he is an important penalty taker like Muriel. For us it is a very good result as we are going to be playing on the pitch of a very big team with absolute values. It will be a very difficult game but it can give us measures on our growth.
Scalvini? Being lucky enough to see him and others blossom has been the greatest luck. When you find such a pure diamond… he is growing in an extraordinary way, physically as well. He has everything, including the makings of a competitive leader for the team despite his young age. I believe he will become an important player for the national team as well.”
