Atalanta’s recent Serie A match against Como ended in a 2-1 victory, with Mateo Retegui scoring both goals for the visiting team. The match, held at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, showcased Atalanta’s resilience as they came back from an early deficit after Nico Paz opened the scoring for Como.
In the post-match interview, Atalanta’s head coach Gian Piero Gasperini reflected on the challenges of playing multiple matches in close succession. He remarked, “It is not easy to play always with the same condition for all these closely scheduled matches. The Italian league always presents difficulties. In the first half, we were slow compared to the opponent; in the second half, we played at a higher level. The match must be seen over the full 90 minutes.”
Gasperini acknowledged the struggles his team faced in developing plays along the flanks during the first half. He noted, “We had difficulties in building play in the first half against a team that had more energy on a heavy pitch. We constructed very little and struggled to have good thrusts on the wings.” However, he praised the impact of substitutes like Marco Brescianini, Bellanova, and De Ketelaere, who added more danger to their attack.
Looking ahead, Gasperini expressed pride in his team’s performance and their upcoming challenge against Barcelona in the Champions League. “The approach of this team is always positive,” he said. “We will go to Barcelona with a lot of pride; it is one of the big European teams that we have yet to face. We will play such an important match in the Champions League with playoff qualification already secured.”
