Gian Piero Gasperini hailed Atalanta’s 3-0 win over Liverpool as an ‘extraordinary result’ for the club and it’s fans. A brace from Gianluca Sacamacca and a third from Mario Pasalic shocked a packed house at Anfield, with competition favourites Liverpool unable to find a response to a clinical La Dea. Speaking with Sky Sport Italia after the game, Gasperini couldn’t contain his happiness at the result and his teams performance:
“It’s an extraordinary result for Atalanta, for its fans, for the club. Reaching the quarter-finals is an achievement in itself, but achieving such a result is unique.”
Gasperini emphasized the significance of playing in a historic stadium like Anfield: “We had won here a few years ago, but there was no crowd. Tonight’s victory has a completely different flavor.”
On the decision to make only one substitution, Gasperini explained: “I made only one change because I didn’t want to disrupt anything. The players were performing well, and we were less fatigued compared to other moments in the game. There was no need for it.”
Finally, Gasperini praised Gianluca Scamacca’s performance: “Gianluca is undergoing significant growth to aspire to be a top-level player. The same goes for De Ketelaere. Tonight’s game must be a massive confidence boost for him.”
