Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini recently shared his thoughts on the club’s Europa League victory and his philosophy on success at the Festival dello Sport in Trento. The event, organized by La Gazzetta dello Sport, brings together prominent figures from Italian sports.
Speaking about Atalanta’s Europa League win, Gasperini expressed his confidence in the team’s ability to challenge Bayer Leverkusen: “It was an important achievement in Europe. I was convinced that we would cause problems for Bayer, who had broken all records and were the favorites. I was confident. I felt that we would create issues for them.”
Gasperini then delved into his perspective on success and results: “The result can’t just be lifting a trophy or winning a league title. The result is something else. It’s when one tries to surpass oneself every day. Everything else is done to create pressure. Everyone has their own goals and reaches their own dimension. Being happy if you get a promotion or if you manage to do something more for your family and children. Otherwise, life would have little meaning. The result is different from success.”
He emphasized the importance of learning from mistakes: “Considering errors as frustration is something that ruins your life. Errors serve to improve yourself and move forward. Sport does nothing but represent life, but in the best way because in sport you learn to lose. It forges your character. Those who come from the world of sport face life better.”
Gasperini concluded by acknowledging the collective effort behind Atalanta’s achievements: “What we have achieved, we have done with the club and the players, but also with the city.”
