In a recent interview with Sky Sport at the Festival dello Sport in Trento, Monza’s CEO Adriano Galliani shared his thoughts on various topics, including the club’s potential sale, the state of modern football, and his confidence in new coach Alessandro Nesta.
Reflecting on his time at AC Milan, Galliani expressed surprise at the enduring enthusiasm for that era: “I didn’t imagine there would still be so much excitement around that Milan. From Sacchi to Ancelotti, passing through Capello, Berlusconi had managed to transmit all the club’s ideals. This evening we were talking about the magical night in Athens, 4-0 against Barcelona. Too beautiful.”
Commenting on the evolution of football, Galliani stated: “Everything has changed, even the way of playing. It seems to me that we played better 30 years ago. Sport is becoming more and more physical and less technical.”
Regarding Monza’s players in the national team, Galliani expressed pride: “I’m very proud of all the players who are in the national team and who have passed through Milan and Monza. Gabbia and Di Gregorio grew up in teams managed by me.”
When asked about the potential sale of Monza, Galliani remained neutral: “I am the object and not the subject. Fininvest is handling it, and they have always been transparent in everything.”
On giving advice to Ibrahimovic in his new role, Galliani said: “He doesn’t need my advice. He is strong in everything he does and will do well as a director too.”
Finally, Galliani expressed full support for new coach Alessandro Nesta: “The problem is not the coach but the injuries, we have 7 players out. We haven’t played badly, we have a few points less than we deserve. Absolute trust.”
