Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesti says he has already chosen his next club, amid links with Roma, Inter, Juventus and Milan. The 23-year-old is considered one of the most in-demand prospects in Italian football and has already said he has no desire to leave Serie A for now. Speaking with La Gazzetta dello Sport (as quoted by IlBianconero), the Italy international revealed that he has already chosen where he wants to play next season, now it’s up to his agent to satisfy his requirements:
Davide, do you check your phone often these days?
“Not so much. I asked my agent Riso to notify me only when it’s almost done and so I condemned myself to self-destruction. He is airtight. His associates are terrified of Riso and tell me nothing. Good thing there is my grandmother Stefania: every day she sends me the press review she made. Fantastic.”
How does it feel to read about the market derby between Inter and Milan for you? And there would also be Juve. The three historical greats of our football want Frattesi.
“It feels good, I can’t deny it. But now I’m a little anxious: I would like the situation to be defined. And I think of my grandfather Carmine, who read newspapers, loved football and would be so happy today.”
You will understand that I cannot ask you what the sea is like in Ibiza. So. Inter are ahead?
“Ahahah… You will understand, however, that at this time I cannot be as unfiltered as in the other interviews. It would not be correct to point out a team because negotiations can die suddenly. I will try to be extremely honest, though: I have chosen the team. And I am sure my agent will find a way to accommodate me, otherwise I will send him … to the sea. I feel, though, that there are other clubs interested in me.”
The first discriminating factor in your choice is what?
“The role: I am a mezzala and I want to be exploited for my characteristics. I think this is normal.”
Does the Champions League, which you would have with Milan but not Juve, affect your choice?
“I think about it, I would like to play it, but it is not the first thing: the project matters more. Just as it doesn’t change going to a team ready to win or to rebuild: I would be motivated in the same way. At 23 years old, it’s time to take certain responsibilities.”
Tonali’s transfer has suddenly opened the channel with Milan, who are looking for a great midfielder, and even from abroad there has been no lack of offers. Is there closure on your part?
“I can only tell you what I guaranteed to Giovanni Carnevali: if Irrenounceable offers arrive, we listen to them. Irrenounceable eh.”
Marchisio publicly invited you to Juve. Carnevali met with Bianconeri executives. For that jersey, you would be in a runoff with Milinkovic-Savic: feelings?
“Marchisio is biased, we are friends. Do you know we have the same fear of planes? On the flight to Ibiza, I popped into the cockpit to ask if turbulence was expected…. As for Milinkovic, well, he is one of the greatest. He’s more talented than me, but if I’m on the ball with him, it means that work takes you to the top. And I work like a donkey, I have an incredible hunger.”
